Alan Bates

Alan Bates

Alan is sixty five years old, has been widowed for ten years with one daughter and two granddaughters.

He spent most of my working life of forty plus years working in the Printing Industry, but from a very young age he always loved comedy, both on the TV and radio.

In the late sixties he used to listen to the great comedy programmes on the radio: gems such as 'Hancock's Half Hour' and 'Steptoe & Son' and many more. He asked his parents for a reel to reel tape recorder for Christmas and it became his pride and joy, with his pocket money being used to buy reels of tape, which were very expensive, and he still has those reels and the recorder today.

He started writing scripts for TV sitcoms in the nineties, sadly without success, but he still has those scripts in a drawer as you never know, they may be adapted to the stage.

In 2000 he completed a writing course with The English Touring when they were based in Crewe attached to the Lyceum Theatre. A prestigious course with some fine guests attending including Wils Wilson, Mark Johnson and Jack Bradley, resulting in a most rewarding and enjoyable year.
