Carole Tricker | Comedy | Full-length | 3m, 9f

Short synopsis

This comedy is set in the 1980s, when a young couple from Scotland fly to Spain for their honeymoon at the Bona Vista Hotel. Carlos Mendrez runs the hotel with assistance from his girlfriends, Fiona and Diana, who do different shifts and rarely meet. David’s mother Edith and his Gran end up at the same hotel and when Carlos sees Edith he is devastated because he is her husband who disappeared 25 years earlier. He tries to avoid Edith and Gran while appearing as normal to Diane and Fiona. All is revealed in the final act, so Carlos loses his girlfriends but gains a family!

This is the sequel to 'Open House' but works well on its own. The end of 'Open House' saw the engagement of David McDowell and Sharon Douglas. Hotel Bona Vista shows us their eventful honeymoon in Spain.

This is a breezy comedy set in the 1980s with plenty of roles for women. David and Sharon from St Andrews in Scotland go to the Bona Vista Hotel in Spain for their honeymoon. Carlos Mendrez runs the hotel with assistance from his girlfriends, Fiona and Diana. The two women do different shifts and rarely meet. He keeps them both happy by promising to marry them when the hotel extension is complete – it never will be! Due to circumstances beyond their control David’s mother Edith and his Gran end up at the same hotel and spend a lot of their time trying to avoid the happy couple.

When Carlos sees Edith and Gran he is devastated because he is in fact Edith's husband who disappeared 25 years before in Spain while working as a long-distance lorry driver. His real name is Charlie Menzies McDowell.  So, he spends all his time avoiding Edith and Gran while trying to appear normal to Diane and Fiona. In trying to do this he proposes to them both. All is revealed in the final act, Gran having recognised him earlier.

It ends with Carlos losing his girlfriends but gaining a family!

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
