Puss In Boots (Davis)

Joy Davis | Pantomime | 9m, 8f, 3m/f + Chorus

Short synopsis

Wendy Miller is left penniless when her husband dies, along with her youngest son Peter, who is left with just the family cat. But when Tiddles drinks a magic elixir she is transformed into Puss in Boots! Puss deceives everyone into believing Peter is the Marquis of Carabas and sets about getting rid of the ogre, Grumbleguts with a little help from Shaz and Gaz, two wannabe popstars, in exchange for the hand of the Princess Crystal. Will they succeed?

This vibrant new script is based on Charles Perrault’s 1697 tale Le Chat Botte (The Booted Cat). It follows the original closely with some up-to-date-ish topical references. The result is a well plotted traditional pantomime with funny lines, good characters and specially rewritten song lyrics.

In his will, Windy Miller leaves his mill and money to his two eldest sons, George and Terry, but nothing to his widow, Wendy Miller, leaving her penniless and destitute.  His youngest son Peter receives Tiddles, the family cat. But this is no ordinary cat, not after she has taken a magic elixir, which transforms her into Puss in Boots, who not only talks but is the coolest cat in the land.

Puss immediately sets about restoring Peter’s fortunes, and when he falls in love with Crystal, a royal Princess disguised as a peasant, Puss transforms Peter into the Marquis of Carabas, and arranges for both of them to go to the royal castle.

Meanwhile the land is being terrorised by Grumbleguts, a terrifying ogre who has just taken up residence in the kingdom and whose favourite food is children.  With the help of Billy the Kidnapper children in the kingdom have started to disappear so Shaz and Gaz, two wannabe pop stars have been sent on a secret mission to discover more about The Ogre.

But….will Shaz and Gaz find out anything or be able to free the children?  Will Peter and Crystal, when they are not in disguise actually get together and marry?  Or will our eponymous hero Puss be clever enough to defeat Grumbleguts?

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
