Running Out Of Time

Bev Clark

Genre: Comedic Drama

Cast size: 6

Duration: 45 mins approx

Bev Clark | Comedic Drama | One Act | 3m, 3f

Short synopsis

James Hargreaves is over-weight, over-worked and under stress. He is heading for a heart attack. His wife Hannah is on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Their daughter Amy warns the world is heading for an environmental catastrophe. They are all running out of time. When they find themselves in an old fashioned hotel with a quirky landlady and her son time takes on a new meaning. This light-hearted whimsical play has a mysterious twist in the tale!

We can be a slave to time… or, we could try and appreciate it. Sometimes, though, to get to where you’re going you just have to stand still.

James Hargreaves must change his lifestyle: over-weight and over-worked, he must get fit and healthy to avoid a heart attack. His wife Hannahmust change her lifestyle: never enough hours in a day to be all things to all people – she must learn to relax to avoid a nervous breakdown. Amy, their daughter, wants the world to change and the family to change their lifestyle: go green, recycle and save the planet to avoid a global catastrophe.

The Hargreaves family find themselves off the beaten track in a remote idyll in the picturesque West Country. They are strangely drawn to the mysterious lake where time appears to have stood still. What is its secret? What is its magic?

A sweet elderly lady and her old-fashioned son seem to know a lot more than they are saying. Who are they and why has the grandfather clock stopped? A strange legend, an egg timer and an old record seem to hold the key. Could it be that time never runs out?

The Hargreaves have been on a journey – but to where? And will they ever be able to find that time again?

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
