Snow White (Barrow)

Colin Barrow

Genre: Pantomime

Duration: Two Act

Colin Barrow | Pantomime | 2m, 2f, 14m/f + Chorus

Short synopsis

Snow White is a popular pantomime that has its challenges when it comes to the ‘Seven’ and of course, the iconic songs created by Disney. Both of which are under copyright and require licenses direct from Disney and can be costly. Audiences, especially children, don’t always understand these complications and without the ‘seven’ can be left disappointed. This script has skirted around those problems giving the producing company/group/ society freedom to use any songs they choose. The ‘Seven’ are entirely to your own imagination and the names given are not used in dialogue. This helps with enquiring minds wondering why they were calling themselves by other names different to that used by Disney. However, their programme/script names help to signify their costume and characteristics which again are open to your own ideas to create. With many characters to perform this pantomime, casting can for smaller groups cause a problem. However, this script does allow a lot of doubling up with ease, even triple up with a few if it helps. A very simple script to produce at virtually any venue and performing space. Full of the usual pantomime fun, with a few unexpected additional twists and characters that tells the same story in a slightly different way.

Prince Roger goes away to do a job, but before he leaves, he promises Snow White that on his return they will marry. After he departs, the Baron, Snow White’s father, arrives with his new bride, Queen Evilarna. Her descendants, it is said, had witch-like powers and she is never without a magic mirror that tells she is the most beautiful. That is until she meets Snow White, a surprise that the Baron has not mentioned to his new wife. Queen Evilarna begins plotting her way of getting Snow White out of her life.

Lady Lilly, Snow White’s Godfairy, goes to fairyland to ask for help. She, in turn, engages the help of the ‘Seven’. The first attempt the Queen has to remove Snow White fails, so she takes it upon herself to finally do the deed with the poison apple at the home of the ‘Seven’. But again, things go awry with the intervention of Lady Lilly.

Through this story of intrigue, Nursie Fartlinger tries to protect Snow White and engages her Sister Daisy to help, but Daisy befriends Alex, a servant to the Queen. With Pip and Squeak humping the mirror to the Castle they become embroiled and make up part of the comedy team. Finally, Prince Roger returns and with his kiss, Snow White breaks from her deep sleep whilst Alex smashes the mirror (unseen and only heard) with a hammer and the Queen loses all her power and looks.  The story ends with four romances heading for marriage!

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
