Gillian Hiscott

Gillian Hiscott

Gillian was born in Plymouth, Devon and has lived in Cornwall since her marriage.  Here she developed a love of theatre and directed and wrote plays.  Her adaptation of Emily Bronte's Wuthering Heights was performed locally, published and then used by a professional touring company in the North.  Whilst bringing up their two sons she continued developing as a writer and wrote a novel set in an English country house during WW2, The Rotunda.

In 2006 she teamed up with Swedish actor and director Ralph Mondi and veteran British TV and film actress Beryl Nesbitt and formed The Library Theatre Company Ltd.  An adaptation of Marie Corelli's Vendetta which had been written some years previously, was performed at the Brighton and Edinburgh Festivals and also performing arts venues in Cornwall and Bath.  In 2008 Gillian's adaptation of Jane Austen's Mansfield Park was performed in a London theatre.

In 2010 she attended Exeter University and graduated with an MA in Playwriting and Script Development.  Whilst at Exeter she wrote The Young Diana and Love in Vain in Love, and both were performed at the university.

Other work includes travel journals based on personal experiences.  She remains to date the only playwright to have adapted work by Victorian novelist Marie Corelli for the stage.
