Feels Like The First Time

Philip Goulding

Genre: Jukebox

Cast size: 9

Duration: 120 mins approx

Philip Goulding | Musical | Full-length | 6m, 3f

Short synopsis

When Terry met Julie they were both in bands and the world was plump with possibilities. Terry was expecting his big break with The Trevors, while Julie was enjoying singing with the Launderettes. Two decades later the YHA where they rehearsed has become a posh hotel, and the musicians are scattered across the globe. But a promise was made to stage a reunion twenty years after their first proper gig together. The boys (and girls) are back in town…

The musical is set during the summer of 1980 and the summer of 2000 in and around a youth hostel and a hotel.

In 1980 a 'Battle of the Bands' competition is being staged. Terry meets Julie. He’s the creative force (in his opinion) behind the upcoming local band 'The Trevors'. Though his fellow band member Cameron thinks he should have more of a say in the way the band is organised. Julie is enjoying simply having a laugh being a part of popular three piece girl-band The Launderettes.

When the chance of a gig comes up at the YHA the Trevors and the Launderettes join forces. But soon creative and personal differences will drive friends and lovers apart and split the bands asunder. Julie and Terry get together and then split up and… who knows where they’ll end up?

A foolish promise was made in 1980 that the band members would all attempt to get together for a big reunion in the year 2000. And that day is finally here.

Featuring over twenty hit songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s, 'Feels Like the First Time' is a sexy, comic, bitter-sweet jukebox musical focusing on the two crucial periods in anybody’s life: the age of twenty and the age of forty.

(6m, 3f)

  • Jez + vocals/guitar
  • Vernon / Elliott + keyboards/bass/vocals/drums
  • Sally + vocals/saxophone
  • Terry + vocals/guitar
  • Julie + vocals/keyboards
  • Nobby + drums/vocals
  • Morris + vocals/keyboards/sax
  • Kate / Penny + vocals/trumpet
  • Cameron + vocals/guitar/bass/harmonica

As can be seen, the musical was written for a cast of actor-musicians, but a separate pit band or on-stage band would work equally well.

"The audience was up and dancing at the Coliseum’s new jukebox musical. You will be up with the best of them, dancing in the aisles. I certainly was"  - Oldham Evening Chronicle

"Filled with energy with sparkling dramatic moments"  - Oldham Advertiser

"A witty script and an interesting storyline. The audience were captivated by this rock n' roll story. The musical content is outstanding. This fine production was a great treat. I left the theatre with a smile on my face. A night of unremitting pleasure. Great fun. A total joy" - Manchester Confidential

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read in that then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (generally costing under half the price of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make a just sufficient quantity of copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Under this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of Perusal Material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as pdf files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as mp3 files and (where available) an mp4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired, licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights. (See 'Copyright Questions' below).

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
