Snow White (Nicol)

Ron Nicol

Genre: Pantomime

Cast size: 22 + Chorus

Duration: Two Act

Ron Nicol | Pantomime | Full-length | 2m, 11f, 9m/f + Chorus

Short synopsis

This is a politically correct version of the Snow White story with all the customary panto elements – a beautiful princess, a handsome prince, an evil stepmother, not one but two fairies, a magic mirror, bungling baddies and delightfully dotty dodderers, plus traditional gags and routines, but only three you know who.

It’s Snow White’s sixteenth birthday. Dame Trott tells her she can now get married - not something that the princess welcomes. Her stepmother Queen Griselda has acquired a mirror which will reveal who is the loveliest lady in the land, but is furious when the mirror informs her that Snow White is lovelier than her. She commands servants Dot and Carrie to get rid of the princess, and they persuade Snow White to accompany them into the forest.
In another country, Queen Gertrude sends Prince Charmian on a quest to find a bride. His first encounter is with an amorous Dairymaid and then with a farmer and his daughters who tell him about Snow White’s disappearance. In a search for Snow White, King Griswold, Trott and Tripp venture into Queen Griselda’s chamber and find the Mirror.

Dot and Carrie’s attempt to dispose of Snow White is a dismal failure, and they return to Griselda saying that Snow White ‘is no longer with them’. Griselda assumes that Snow White is dead, but the princess has taken refuge in a little cottage which belongs to Bossy, Huffy and Dozy, who have made her welcome.

Griselda consults the Mirror, which again names Snow White as the fairest lady in the land, and Griselda devises another plot to dispose of her. She’s overheard by Griswold, who sets off with Trott and Tripp to search for Snow White in the forest. Dot and Carrie have met Prince Charmian and offered to help him find his princess. Both groups encounter a Beast.

Bossy, Huffy and Dozy leave Snow White alone in the cottage, where she’s visited by an old woman who offers her an apple. Snow White bites the apple and falls insensible. The Old Woman is really Griselda in disguise, who reveals that the apple has been poisoned. All the searchers arrive in time to capture Griselda, Snow White revives, and all ends happily.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
