Cast size: 4

Duration: Two Act

Philip Goulding | Comedic Drama | Full-Length | 2m, 2f

Short synopsis

1960. Elvis Presley will touch down in Scotland on his way home from National Service in Germany. It’ll be the only time the Hillbilly Cat sets foot on British soil. The news somehow gets out, so Tony, Jean, and Sylvia, commandeer a car and head North, hoping to catch a glimpse of their hero. Our gang will encounter an array of comic characters as, in a race against time, they progress to Prestwick and a potential date with Elvis.

March 3rd 1960. US Sergeant 53310761 Elvis Presley is due to land at Prestwick Airport in Scotland on his way back to the USA after completing his National Service in Germany. This will turn out to be the one and only time the King of Rock & Roll sets foot on British soil.

The news somehow gets out and an eager group of his fans gather at the airport to catch a glimpse of their hero.

Tony Taylor is a mechanic from Mansfield. He believes that if a truck driver from Tupelo, Mississippi can make it big, then just about anything’s possible. Hearing the news that his hero will be landing on British soil, Tony skips work and sets off, determined to see the Hillbilly Cat in the flesh.  Joining him for the adventure are his sister Jean and her friend Sylvia. Jean’s feet appear to be firmly on the ground, while Sylvia is hoping to be swept off of hers.

The play is a road movie on stage, following the ups and downs of the gang’s journey from Mansfield to Prestwick. En route the trio’s progress is punctuated by an array of colourful comic characters, as Tony, Jean and Sylvia struggle to make their goal.

Will time run out, or will Tony achieve his ambition to see the Tupelo Tornado at close range?

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
