Duration: 40 mins approx

Derek Webb | Comedy | One Act | 3m, 1f

Short synopsis

In the security control room of The Oaks shopping centre, Rich is coming on duty for the night shift, relieving Alex and Jane, two other guards. It is, it seems a ordinary evening at The Oaks – until the arrival of Keith, a robber of quite breathtaking incompetence, intent on robbing the shopping centre... Easily staged with some extremely funny scenes, CCTV has been a big hit in one-act festivals.

In the security control room of The Oaks shopping centre,  Rich is coming on duty for the night shift, relieving Alex and Jane, two other guards.  Alex is decidedly non-pc with a penchant for zooming in the CCTV cameras onto unsuspecting women shoppers.  Rich is far more conformist and rather pedantic in his attitudes, but he has obviously learnt to put up with Alex's childish behaviour.  Jane has a penchant for shopping with a capital S and is a bright, rather feisty addition to the security team.

It is, it seems a ordinary evening at The Oaks – until the arrival of Keith, a robber of quite breathtaking incompetence, intent on robbing the shopping centre... Easily staged with some extremely funny scenes, CCTV has been a big hit in 1-act festivals.

The dull routine of life in a security office is blown away with the arrival of Keith who has a stocking over his head and a gun in the back of the apologetic Jane The horror of the situation is somewhat diluted by the fact that neither Rich nor Alex can make out a single word that Keith is saying, due to the afore-mentioned stocking. The humour comes thick and fast. Alex unwittingly tells Keith all he needs to know, while Rich insists that people adhere to the correct use of grammar whatever the circumstances.

3m, 1f

  • Alex: 20-40, security guard, treats most things as a bit of a joke
  • Rich: 30-50, security guard, treats things far more seriously
  • Jane: 20-40 security guard, treats shopping with reverence
  • Keith: 20-40 would-be robber, treats himself to whatever he can lay his hands on

"CCTV is a well written, very funny one act play that is sure to please.”

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
