A decrepit Narrator introduces the story and re-appears at various times to link the scenes.
Kitty the tiger thinks she’s a rug, but Queenie the cook tells Henrietta that Kitty’s been eating village children. Tweenie the maid is told to take Kitty into the garden. Queenie complains about Aurora interfering in the kitchen. Aurora has picked up some mouse droppings, believing they’re raisins, which Tweenie eats before she and Queenie are sent back to the kitchen. Mortimer and Henry are sent off by Henrietta to plan their next expedition.
Henry and Mortimer are apparently trudging through the jungle, unaware that they’re being followed by Henrietta and Aurora disguised as male explorers, together with Queenie and Tweenie, and followed by Kitty.
Henry, fearing that Henrietta might be after him, pushes on into what he believes is the jungle, when Kitty approaches and hands him what looks like a rolled up flag. Henrietta catches up with Henry and Mortimer, who takes the ‘flag’ and reveals that they’re Aurora’s colourful bloomers. As Henrietta scolds Mortimer, Mortimer stands up to her, to Aurora’s delight. Meanwhile Henry has found the pair of earrings which Henrietta had lost last summer, and they realise that the jungle they thought they were exploring is actually the shrubbery at the bottom of their own garden.
