Short synopsis

Set at Worth Farm and Vineyard, this comedic murder mystery follows Heather Watson, who promises inheritance to several people in exchange for reduced wages. When Heather is murdered, each suspect receives false promises of inheritance. Detective Harman investigates as secrets and a hidden romance come to light, revealing the true heir— and the murderer.

This comedic murder mystery play is set in the sitting room of the farmhouse at Worth Farm and Vineyard. Heather Watson hatches a plan that in her final handful of years of life, she will have a little fun promising various people they will be her sole beneficiary to the entire farm and vineyard in return for a reduction in their current wages. Each person involved is sworn to secrecy and is not to mention this arrangement to anyone else.

Embroiled in this scheme are Mr and Mrs Daniels who own the neighbouring farm and are now renting land from Heather with beneficial conditions to inherit Worth Farm on her death. Russell, the current farm manager is eager to become the beneficiary, as is Maxine who tends the vines. Heather also adds Jill, her cleaning lady to the list, with the same promise, but she would have to become the live-in cleaner and housemaid.

One evening when all five are invited to a gathering, Heather is murdered by one of them in her bedroom. Heather’s solicitor provides each on them with a letter from the now deceased Heather, and it soon becomes apparent that they have all been given the same false promise of inheritance, because in reality, they each only receive two cases of wine.

Detective Harman has the job to try and unravel the clues which lead to the murderer. As the story unfolds, revelations of a secret romance are discovered along with the true identity of who is to inherit Worth Farm and Vineyard… but, who is the murderer?

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
