Whatever Happened To Ruby Quicksilver?

Janet Shaw

Genre: Comedy

Cast size: 10

Duration: 110 mins approx

Janet Shaw | Comedy | Full-length | 4m, 6f

Short synopsis

Frankie Morgan gave up the glittering life as pop/rock singer Ruby Quicksilver and now runs an hotel in Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol. What made her give it all up and retreat to obscurity? When another hotel's misfortune causes a few of their guests to de-camp, Frankie should be happy, but, the guests begin to cause problems. There's the hen party with some awkward secrets, a young man who thinks he's god's gift to women, and Mavis, a woman for whom nothing is ever right, and her compliant, anything-for-a-quiet-life husband, Cliff. Not only does the combination of this lot start to raise some temperatures, but it turns out that many years ago, Cliff and Ruby were friendly, and he knows more than he's letting on about Grace, Frankie's daughter.

After turning her back on a glittering pop career, Ruby Quicksilver (now known as Francesca Morgan) opts for a quiet life running a boutique hotel in the mountains on the Costa Del Sol.

Life is good until the recession hits and the hotel starts to struggle. An opportunity arises to boost trade when a rogue fire results in the evacuation of the nearby Hotel Plaza in Fuengirola, but Frankie’s quiet life and anonymity are disrupted by the unexpected guests. Amongst the new arrivals are an old flame of Frankie’s, now married, with the wife from hell; two brothers, one of which is a total sex pest and who seems intent of upsetting the regular German clientele; and three girls on a hen do, one of them harbouring a dark secret which will wreck the life of the bride-to-be.

Throw in Frankie’s daughter Grace (who has left college to become a singer, much to her mother’s dismay) and the local sex-siren Venus, who isn’t exactly who she says she is, and temperatures begin to rise.

Watch the fireworks ignite as the story reaches an explosive climax. A very funny, and sometimes poignant, look at the lives of a diverse group of people who are inadvertently thrown together.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
