Moments In Life (Vol 3)

David Hampshire

Genre: Collections

Cast size: 5

Duration: 40 mins approx

David Hampshire | Collections | One Act | 3m, 2f

Short synopsis

Four ten minute scripts for small casts.

The Actor And The Extra (Drama: 2m, 1f) A cautionary and touching tale on the vagaries of the acting profession. Who is the actor and who is the extra.

The Waitrose Wing (Comedy: 3m) Scott and Melville, two pretentious art critics, lavish praise on a modern installation. Jack, the gallery caretaker and a self-proclaimed expert on all things artistic, leaves the critics aghast. But does Jack know something about the installation that they don’t?

Happy Inside (Drama: 2m, 1f) Claire visits Walter, her father, in a nursing home. Their conversation seems quite normal until she says to her husband, Brian, that her father hasn’t spoken a word to her. Walter can now only speak to her in his mind, not with his voice.

Garabini (Comedy: 3m, 1f) Two visiting antique dealers persuade local man Tom to sell them a painting cheaply, telling him it's worthless, but knowing it to be worth a small fortune. But is it? Is Tom as naïve as he appears? Who's scamming whom?

We've bundled Vols 1, 2 and 3 together with a Bonus script

This is Volume 3 of 3 Volumes

Volume 1 contains...
25 Reasons On A Quiet Day
(Drama: 1m, 1f). A long married couple take a memorable holiday, the last that one of them will ever take.

Vile Company (Comedy: 2m, 1f). Shane and Laine, a couple who possess three brain cells between them appear on a reality TV talk show in an attempt to save their dysfunctional relationship.

Visiting Frank (Drama: 1f). A monologue in which a widow movingly talks to her long-departed WW1 soldier husband at his graveside.

Briefcase Encounter (Comedy: 2m, 1f). A contemporary pastiche of ‘Brief Encounter’ in which the relationship between the actors playing a housewife and a doctor waiting at a railway station become stronger than the parts they play, with unfortunate results.

Volume 2 contains...
Ava Gardner
(Drama: 1m, 1f) A man sits on a railway station listening to the announcements. When an attractive woman sits beside him, is he reminded of his wife, or Ava Gardner, or both?

Over The Top (Up) (Comedy: 2f with 4 m/f non-speaking) Chelsea and Jade are addicted to their mobile phones. The problem is that they're on a crowded train… a problem for the other passengers that is.

Straight Man (Comedy: 1m, 2f) At a home for retired variety performers, Ronnie Rainbow tries to rehearse the sketch that he knows he and his wife can now never give to their adoring public.

Up Or Down? (Comedy: 2m) Ronald thinks he’s arrived at the pearly gates, but jobsworth, Peter, says that the gates are three floors up and it’s his job to decide here in the holding area, whether to press the lift’s ‘up’ or ‘down’ button.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
