After The Dream

Bev Clark

Genre: Comedic Drama

Cast size: 8

Duration: 110 mins approx

Bev Clark | Comedic Drama | Full-length | 4m, 4f

Short synopsis

Twenty years ago, four young people were holidaying in Greece when something ‘magical’ happened. Now, the two couples are celebrating their anniversaries and experiencing married life very differently. The arrival of three new-age travellers brings a little more magic into their lives but this time with disastrous consequences. What happens when a spell is broken? Drawing on Shakespeare’s original text, this full length play is a modern sequel to 'A Midsummer Night’s Dream' and blends comedy and pathos, bringing a new twist to an old tale.

A modern sequel to A Midsummer Night’s Dream, this comedy-drama brings a new twist to an old tale.

Dee and Helen are celebrating their twentieth anniversary with their best friends Mia and Sandy. Dee and Helen are blissfully happy. Sandy and Mia are on the verge of a divorce. Into this Midsummer Eve’s party come three new-age travellers; Ron, Tanya and their son Robin.

As the evening progresses, it is clear that these strange gate-crashers have come on a mission to right and old wrong and complete some unfinished business.

When Helen and Dee’s daughter Faye arrives, the magic starts to mix with the laughter and wine, until there is a shock announcement which brings them all to their knees.

As the plot thickens, the twist and turns reveal themselves to show the complications of love and some dark secrets. Who really loves who?

By lifting a spell everyone’s hearts are broken and with the coming morning they each have a new destiny and the mysterious travellers leave Fate to guide the mortals into the future.

Shakespeare’s lovers and fairies are given a contemporary twist in this funny, clever comedy that also has a dark modern theme.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
