Frank and Rose Saunders have been married for fifty-two years, and are now living at ‘Autumn Glade’, a small Retirement Complex. There are five other residents living on the complex, and although they have a wide diversity of backgrounds, the group are reasonably happy living together, and life is good.
However, on the day Lyn Brown, a young female Care Assistant, starts working at the complex, a spate of robberies ensue. The residents are thrown into turmoil with everyone feeling uneasy about the situation. Frank takes charge of investigating the crime and suggests they set up a sting operation by leaving a valuable item on display and all take turns to observe what happens. The operation is put into place and almost immediately Lyn removes the item whilst covertly being watched by Katy Turner, one of the residents.
Katy, who is profoundly deaf, is mortified and tells Frank what has happened. The residents are split over what they should do next. The days pass by with nothing being resolved until Katy, who has just had her ears syringed and can now hear perfectly, overhears a phone call made by Frank to a Pawnbroker, this changes everything.
In the meantime, love is in the air at ‘Autumn Glade.’ Jack Bowden, a Bachelor, has fallen in love with one of the female residents, and is about to propose to her – who will it be? The local Vicar, who frequently calls in to offer prayers and guidance, is painfully shy and is trying to pluck up the courage to ask Lyn to go out with him.
Another resident, Martha Hollis, has received notification she has inherited a fortune from a distant relative which will make a difference to everyone living at Autumn Glade.
An excellent comedy for groups with older cast members.
Written in 2010, this play has enjoyed outstanding success.
