Over Exposure is set in 1977, the year of the Silver Jubilee when upwardly mobile Fred Fittleworth, owner of Fittleworth’s Family Photographers, wants to be mayor. To fund this he agrees to his assistant Len’s suggestion that he take some photos for a magazine called Forty Plus, which he thinks is for women aged forty years and over.
He is horrified to learn that it is for women whose major attributes measure over forty inches and that it is published by a former gangster. He decides to carry on despite having to keep it from his wife who, on the same day as the shoot, has organised a visit from the European Community’s anti-sleaze campaigner, Edwin Anstruther.
Marilyn, the model, who is more interested in alternative therapy than posing, has told her jealous boyfriend Hans, the myopic runner for the gangster, that she is visiting her aunt for the day. When she realises Hans might see her at the studio she insists that Fred pretends to be her aunt.
Anstruther arrives early and falls for Fred, who has to pretend to be his own sister. Fred finds himself dealing with the gangster’s threats and fighting off both Anstruther and Hans, as well as trying to keep his wife happy and stopping her from moving her mother into the flat above his shop.
Will some compromising photos of his wife, who has unwittingly been drinking tea with an aphrodisiac in it, win the day for Fred?
