Cast size: 10

Duration: Two Act

Diana Raffle | Comedy | Full-length | 3m, 5f, 2m/f

Short synopsis

(3m, 5f) In Lady Fotheringham's stately home, Cheryl and Trevor Slater-Rees both have important business to conduct. Meanwhile Lady Fotheringham is trying to throw a party for her rather elderly friends. This hilarious farce has audiences laughing out loud as Trevor and his friend Bob lurch from dilemma to disaster and dead bodies start piling up. With an intellectually challenged gardener's daughter, several "interesting" costume changes and Maria's fiery temperament added into the mix - the chaos continues. This fast paced farcical comedy promises silly twists and turns... with innuendo a-plenty.

Lady Fotheringham is trying to throw a party for her rather elderly friends in her stately home. Cheryl (her daughter) and Trevor Slater-Rees (Cheryl’s husband) both have important business to conduct at the same time. Trevor's marriage is in a mess and so is his job. If he doesn't sell one big property before the end of the month, he'll face the sack. However, thanks to his friend Bob things are looking up. They have managed to get invited to a party that could just provide Trevor with a buyer, but the catch is that it's a ‘Vicars & Tarts’ party.

Unfortunately, before leaving, Trevor accidentally smashes a priceless artifact that his wife is valuing as part of her job for the local museum. Desperate to cover their tracks Trevor and Bob decide to break into the house after their party and fake a burglary, thus sorting out the problem of the smashed vase. However, what they don't know is that not only is Trevor's mother-in-law holding a murder mystery evening complete with a policewoman kiss-o-gram, but in addition some real burglars have turned up!

This hilarious farce has audiences laughing out loud as Trevor and his friend Bob lurch from dilemma to disaster and dead bodies start piling up. With an intellectually challenged gardener's daughter, several ‘interesting’ costume changes and Bob’s Mediterranean wife Maria's fiery temperament added into the mix, the chaos continues. This fast-paced farcical comedy promises silly twists and turns… with innuendo a-plenty. Another brilliant fast-paced comedy from the writer of ‘Round The Houses’.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
