Short synopsis

An artificial intelligence called Kal is threatening to take control of the world. It is up to Jesse, her friends, gods and demi-gods to work together to bring down Mr A Warbringer who owns Kaleidoscopic Studios. But with the gods soon to be out of action after not reading the small print on a contract, everyone is having to rely on Jesse, with her lack of mobile phone and only a coding book, to save them. Will she manage it? And who will pay the ultimate cost?

‘Kaleidoscopic Kingdoms’ is a One Act play and is the sequel to ‘Jesse and the Bookkeepers’. It will work as a stand alone play, but could also be performed as part of the trilogy.

It’s Jesse’s birthday, and despite the disappointment at being given a coding book rather than a phone, she discovers a mysterious present that she realises is from Tioni Moon and informs her friends that they need to go to the library as soon as school has finished.

Meanwhile on Mount Olympus, computers are taking the places of scrolls and Tioni and Artemis are convinced there is something not right, but one thing they are sure of is that it involves Ares, the God of War, and his new assistant Kal. Artemis, Apollo and Tioni reveal to Athena and Zeus that they have discovered  Kal is short for Kaleidoscopic and that Ares is up to no good. Once Tioni has left, Athena learns that Tioni, Stella and Tiernan are Zeus’s children and are in fact demi-gods.

Back at school, Jesse tells Emily and Sam all about the library, Tioni and the Bookkeepers, but is interrupted when their teacher introduces them to a new student called Kali, whose father works for Kaleidoscopic Studios. The children invite Kali to join them in the library later, where they meet Tioni, Smudge and the Bookkeepers and begin to realise that Kaleidoscopic Studios is run by none other than Ares himself.

Ares has taken over phone companies, news channels, computers, gaming and movie channels and he soon reveals that Kal is in fact an artificial intelligence and is all around us. Anyone who has one of his phones or any of these devices will be under his control. Fortunately, Jesse doesn’t have a phone, and whilst a battle is fought between Gods and Demi-Gods, Jesse is able to save the day with her coding book…..but at what cost?

‘Kaleidoscopic Kingdoms’ is designed so that it can be a cast of many, with an additional ensemble for school children and AI children, or few with the use of multi-roling, and other characters can be cast to suit the setting and genders. It is written so that it can also be rehearsed in isolated sections should you have a large cast, and the set can be large scale or small scale. It is a mixture of comedy and action so as to appeal to a varied audience.

This play is written so that Jesse,Kali and Smudge can be played by either a girl or a boy - pronouns will need to be changed. The same can be used for Mrs Carter. It is also designed so that you can have a cast of many or multi-role.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
