‘Red Ridinghood Goes Out West’ is a new telling of the Red Ridinghood tale set in the American West. Red Ridinghood, an independent-minded English girl, arrives in Not Very Big Boulder (a town which is bankrupt with the Sheriff leaving) to save Grandma from the outlaw, Bad Bart, and his incompetent sidekick, Brains. Bad Bart wants to buy Grandma’s home for a pittance as there is “gold in them thar hills!” Red manages to foil his plan. In desperation, Bad Bart hires Big Bad Wolf, an Indian brave with a villainous reputation, to kill Grandma, leaving Bart able to claim the land as his own.
Big Bad Wolf scares Grandma and she hides. When Red comes home Big Bad wolf is in bed pretending to be Grandma; he chases Red intending to make her one of his squaws. But help is at hand in the form of the Lone Ranger and Tonto – or it would be if the Lone Ranger were more competent and less vain! Red Ridinghood, the children and Tonto save the day.
Grandma has enough money to save the town from bankruptcy and the Lone Ranger as ‘the hero’ thinks he will marry Red – but she is already engaged … to Tonto.
Bad Bart is kept in order by Camille and Big Bad Wolf is adopted by the two squaws to do their shopping. So, all is well again in Not Very Big Boulder and the Sheriff returns.
