Short synopsis

When George T. Slinger returns to his honeymoon cottage in Kent to finish his psychological-magical-realism-thriller novel a whole new world is there ready to greet him that could be straight out of the pages of his own book…which indeed it is.

Up and coming novelist George T. Slinger returns to the cottage in Kent where he enjoyed his honeymoon with Tanya. Since then, Tanya has left George for Bradley because of George’s neglect of her due to his obsession with his novel-writing. He believes that returning to the honeymoon cottage will serve a double purpose: not only will it help him resume his psychological-magical-realism-thriller novel – which he is presently struggling to write – but also, by reconnecting with his past happy memories there coupled with the power of his writer’s imagination, he might somehow magically conjure the real flesh-and-blood Tanya back into his life again.

George soon realises he is quite delusional and becomes extremely despondent. However, the enigmatic Crispin, the cottage’s caretaker, on meeting George and hearing his story, becomes the catalyst for reigniting George’s hopes. The next day Tanya arrives. George questions whether it was his imagination that brought her to the cottage or whether she came of her own free will. But, no matter which, Tanya is with him again and that’s all that counts. She assures George that there was no Bradley and that she was just making him up to punish him. They agree to make this holiday together their second honeymoon…on one condition Tanya insists: no writing. George agrees, but before long he is secretly working on his novel. Tanya catches him writing and angrily storms out.

George resolves to forget about Tanya and to focus on his novel instead and the future success it will bring him when published. The unexpected arrival of Bradley and then the reappearance of Tanya forces George to unwillingly participate in a series of events that could be straight out of his psychological magical realism thriller… which indeed it is. George realises that his powerful writer’s imagination has put him squarely into the pages of his own book. Time is running out until George must meet his grizzly demise over the nearby cliff edge by the hand of the villainous Bradley, unless he is able to win back Tanya’s love and rid the world – and Tanya’s imagination – of her lover.

As the novel’s author, George realises that the story is ultimately in his hands and he can choose to write the ending her prefers. But will he? Or will his self-sabotaging nature get the better of him?

However, there is one last twist in George’s story that even he, the author, couldn’t have possibly imagined.

‘A highly intriguing puzzle of a play. We are never where we think we are and the truth, we find, can be relative. In these expert hands, succumbing to this play is a pleasure.’

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
