Sherlock Holmes And The Poisoned Pen Letter

Simon Rayner Davis

Genre: Comedy

Cast size: 5

Duration: 35 - 40 mins approx

Simon Rayner Davis | Comedy | One Act | 3m, 2f

Short synopsis

Holmes and Watson discover a dead body on their chaise longue. A distressed actress Sarah Moaney bursts in to suggest it is her thumbless uncle, Justice Fingers. But is it just an act, or part of Moriarty's fiendish plot to eliminate the Great Detective? The play proceeds at breakneck speed via outrageous puns and plot twists to a denouement - of sorts that will leave you baffled, but hugely entertained.

When Mrs Hudson puts a stop to Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson flashing in front of her windows little did they know they would find a dead body in the middle of the living room on the chaise longue.

Suddenly a distressed actress, Sarah Moaney bursts in to suggest the body is her thumbless uncle, Justice Fingers. But is this just an act, or is it part of that insane arch villain’s plot (the mention of whose very name strikes terror into the hearts of all decent people) to wreak diabolical revenge on the detective duo?

Whilst Holmes and Watson have rushed off to police headquarters to tell them what’s afoot at the Yard, the body is finally revealed to be none other than that insane arch villain, Moriarty.

With the unexpected arrival of Inspector Lestrade and his identical twin brother things take an even more complicated turn when Moriarty and Mrs Hudson change places. Will Moriarty triumph or will Doctor Watson keep standing on Sarah Moaney? Will Mrs Hudson get to show Holmes her complete service or lay on a turkey?

The play proceeds at breakneck speed via outrageous puns and plot twists to a denouement (of sorts) that will leave you baffled, but hugely entertained.

Frequently asked questions

Can we try before we buy?

Of course! All our plays and pantomimes have a free Preview Script available for download as an A4 pdf file that contains 60-75% of the full script. If you like what you read then you can buy an inexpensive e-script of the entire play (typically less than half the cost of a traditional printed script) which is licensed to you for your personal use. Purchasing a script copying licence allows you to make just enough copies to support rehearsals and performances.

All our musicals are included in our perusal service. Through this, representatives of producing organisations can request a USB Stick of perusal material  which comprise the script/libretto and piano/vocal score as PDF files; a Cast (or Studio) Recording as MP3 files and (where available) an MP4 file video of either the premiere production or of a subsequent production.

Some titles have the facility to read the entire script online on our website.

Do we need a Licence To Perform?

The simple answer is, yes.

Under the international laws of copyright, you must be in possession of a valid, unexpired licence before performing any piece of theatre unless the owner or managers of the copyright has waived their rights.

Why do you insist on providing a formal royalties quotation?

When you request a quotation, it is logged in our system, it forms part of an orderly queue and protects your place in that queue should multiple licensing requests occur for the same show.
